While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking, a man came along leading a donkey. The man said, "Messenger of Allah, ride," and stepped back.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No, you have more right to the front of your mount than I do, unless you give it to me."The man said, "I have given it to you." So he rode.
حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن ثابت المروزي حدثني علي بن حسين حدثني أبي حدثني عبد الله بن بريدة قال سمعت
بينما رسول الله ﷺ يمشي جاء رجل ومعه حمار فقال يا رسول الله اركب وتأخر الرجل فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا أنت أحق بصدر دابتك مني إلا أن تجعله لي قال فإني قد جعلته لك فركب
Its isnad is hasan.Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on what has been said about a man having more right to the front of his mount, no. 2773, from the hadith of Ali bin Husayn bin Waqid, with this same wording, and he said, "Hasan gharib." Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 2001, and Hakim graded it according to the criterion of Muslim, 2/64, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
