A man said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing at the door, "Messenger of Allah, I find myself in a state of major ritual impurity in the morning while I intend to fast."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I too find myself in a state of major ritual impurity in the morning while intending to fast, so I bathe and complete my fast."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, you are not like us. Allah has forgiven your past and future sins."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, "By Allah, I hope to be the most fearful of Allah among you, and the most knowledgeable of you regarding what I follow."
[Its chain of transmission is sahih]. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Fasting, chapter on the validity of the fast of one upon whom Fajr rises while he is in a state of major ritual impurity, hadith no. 1110, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman through him, and it is found in Muwatta (Yahya): 1/289.
