Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

"And upon those who can endure it, a ransom of feeding a poor person" [Baqarah 2:184]. So whoever among them wished to ransom by feeding a poor person did so, and his fast was complete for him. Then He said, "But whoever volunteers good, it is better for him, and that you fast is better for you" [Baqarah 2:184]. And He said, "So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it, and whoever is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of other days" [Baqarah 2:185].

عن ابن عباس

{وعلى الذين يطيقونه فدية طعام مسكين} فكان من شاء منهم أن يفتدي بطعام مسكين افتدى وتم له صومه فقال {فمن تطوع خيرا فهو خير له وأن تصوموا خير لكم} وقال {فمن شهد منكم الشهر فليصمه ومن كان مريضا أو على سفر فعدة من أيام أخر}
