Regarding the verse, "Those of you who die and leave wives behind should bequeath to their wives provision for a year without their being driven out" [Baqarah 2:240], this was abrogated by the verse of inheritance, which assigned them a quarter or an eighth. The waiting period of one year was also abrogated, being replaced by a period of four months and ten days.
