The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sleep while in a state of major ritual impurity without touching any water.
حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن أبي إسحق عن الأسود

[Its isnad is daif]. Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Purification, chapter on what has been said about a person in a state of major impurity sleeping before performing ghusl, hadith no. 118, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 583, 581, both from the hadith of Abu Ishaq Sabi. The hadith has corroborating narrations, see Talkhis Habir 1/141.Abu Ishaq stated explicitly that he heard it directly, as recorded by Bayhaqi 1/201, 202, but the chain leading to him is daif.
