Ibn Ala Bayadi reported that Salama said, "I was a man who used to have intercourse with women more than anyone else. When the month of Ramadan came, I feared that if I went near my wife I would not stop until morning, so I declared zihar against her until Ramadan should end.One night while she was serving me, something of her body became uncovered, and before long I leapt upon her. When morning came, I went out to my people and told them what had happened, and I said, 'Walk with me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'They said, 'No, by Allah.'So I went to the Prophet ﷺ alone and informed him.He asked, 'Did you really do that, Salama?'I replied, 'Yes, I did it, Messenger of Allah,' twice, 'and I am patient with whatever Allah commands, so judge in my case as Allah has shown you.'He said, 'Free a slave.'I said, striking the side of my neck, 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I own no slave but this neck of mine.'He said, 'Then fast two consecutive months.'I said, 'Did what happened to me come about from anything other than fasting?'He said, 'Then feed sixty poor people with a wasq of dates.'I said, 'By the One who sent you with the truth, we spent the night hungry, with no food at all.'He said, 'Then go to the collector of charity for Banu Zurayq and have him hand it over to you. Feed sixty poor people with a wasq of dates, and you and your family eat the rest.'So I returned to my people and said, 'I found with you only narrowness and poor judgment, and I found with the Prophet ﷺ generosity and sound judgment. He has ordered me to take your charity,' or 'has ordered your charity for me.'"Ibn Ala added that Ibn Idris said, "Bayada is a clan from Banu Zurayq."
[Its isnad is daif] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Divorce and Lian, chapter on what has been said about one who makes zihar and then has intercourse before making expiation, hadith no. 1198, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2062, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar with this wording, and I did not find an explicit statement of his having heard it. Sulayman did not hear it from him. Nevertheless, Tirmidhi graded it hasan, and Hakim graded it sahih according to the criterion of Muslim (2/203), and Dhahabi agreed with him, but the chain is daif, and it has daif corroborating narrations.
