Abd Yazid, the father of Rukana, divorced Umm Rukana, the mother of Rukana and his brothers, and then married a woman from Mazina. She came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "He is of no more use to me than this hair," pointing to a single hair she had taken from her head, "so separate me from him."The Prophet ﷺ became indignant on her behalf. He summoned Rukana and his brothers, then said to those sitting with him, "Do you see that so-and-so resembles Abd Yazid in such and such ways, and that so-and-so resembles him in such and such ways?"They replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ then said to Abd Yazid, "Divorce her," and he did so.Then he said, "Take back your wife, the mother of Rukana and his brothers."Abd Yazid said, "Messenger of Allah, I have divorced her three times."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "I know. Take her back," and he recited, "Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them at the start of their waiting period" [Talaq 65:1].
