When Ali married Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and wished to consummate the marriage with her, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prevented him from doing so until he gave her something.Ali said, "Messenger of Allah, I have nothing."The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Give her your coat of mail."So he gave her his coat of mail and then consummated the marriage with her.
حدثنا كثير بن عبيد الحمصي حدثنا أبو حيوة عن شعيب يعني ابن أبي حمزة حدثني غيلان بن أنس حدثني محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن ثوبان

[Its chain is daif] Bayhaqi narrated it (7/252) from the hadith of Abu Dawud, through the same route, from Ghaylan, who is obscure. A group of narrators reported from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat (3/9). His hadith has some corroborating witnesses, among them hadith no. 2125.
