With the same chain of narration and meaning, he said, "The previously married woman has more right over herself than her guardian, and the virgin is to be consulted by her father."

بإسناده ومعناه قال الثيب أحق بنفسها من وليها والبكر يستأمرها أبوها
[Sahih] Muslim reported it, hadith no. 67/1421. See also the preceding hadith, narrated from Sufyan bin Uyayna with this wording, and it is found in Musnad Ahmad, 1/219.His saying, "and a virgin, her father should consult her," was also criticized by Daraqutni, and the heart does not find satisfaction with the reasoning behind either of these two criticisms.
