The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the farewell circumambulation at the end of his day, after he had prayed Dhuhr. He then returned to Mina and stayed there during the nights of the days of Tashriq. He would throw the pebbles at the Jamarat after the sun had passed its zenith, casting seven pebbles at each Jamrah and saying the takbir with each pebble. He would pause at the first and second Jamrah, standing for a long time in supplication and humble entreaty, but he would throw at the third without pausing afterward.
حدثنا علي بن بحر وعبد الله بن سعيد المعنى قالا حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن محمد بن إسحق عن عبد الرحمن بن القاسم عن أبيه
أفاض رسول الله ﷺ من آخر يومه حين صلى الظهر ثم رجع إلى منى فمكث بها ليالي أيام التشريق يرمي الجمرة إذا زالت الشمس كل جمرة بسبع حصيات يكبر مع كل حصاة ويقف عند الأولى والثانية فيطيل القيام ويتضرع ويرمي الثالثة ولا يقف عندها
Sourcing, [hasan] Ahmad narrated it, 6/90, from Ali bin Bahr, with this chain, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 2956, 2971, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 1013, and Hakim, according to the standard of Muslim, 1/477, 478, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Muhammad bin Ishaq explicitly stated that he heard it directly in the version narrated by Ibn Hibban.
