Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Mecca, and the fever of Yathrib had weakened his Companions. The polytheists said, "A people are coming to you whom the fever has weakened and from which they have suffered greatly."Allah, the Exalted, informed His Prophet ﷺ of what they had said, so he commanded the Companions to jog briskly during the first three circuits and to walk between the two corners. When the polytheists saw them jogging, they said, "These are the ones you claimed the fever had weakened? They are stronger than us!"Ibn Abbas said, "He only refrained from ordering them to jog in all the circuits out of compassion for them."

حدثنا مسدد حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن أيوب عن سعيد بن جبير أنه حدث

عن ابن عباس قال

قدم رسول الله ﷺ مكة وقد وهنتهم حمى يثرب فقال المشركون إنه يقدم عليكم قوم قد وهنتهم الحمى ولقوا منها شرا فأطلع الله سبحانه نبيه ﷺ على ما قالوه فأمرهم أن يرملوا الأشواط الثلاثة وأن يمشوا بين الركنين فلما رأوهم رملوا قالوا هؤلاء الذين ذكرتم أن الحمى قد وهنتهم هؤلاء أجلد منا قال ابن عباس ولم يأمرهم أن يرملوا الأشواط كلها إلا إبقاء عليهم
