He was asking him, and Abban was at that time the leader of the pilgrimage, while both of them were in the state of ihram. He said, "I wish to marry Talha bin Umar to the daughter of Shayb bin Jubayr, and I would like you to be present for that."Abban rebuked him for this and said, "I heard my father Uthman bin Affan say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A man in ihram must not marry, nor give in marriage.'"
حدثنا القعنبي عن مالك عن نافع عن نبيه بن وهب أخي بني عبد الدار أن عمر بن عبيد الله أرسل إلى
يسأله وأبان يومئذ أمير الحاج وهما محرمان إني أردت أن أنكح طلحة بن عمر ابنة شيبة بن جبير فأردت أن تحضر ذلك فأنكر ذلك عليه أبان وقال إني سمعت أبي عثمان بن عفان يقول قال رسول الله ﷺ لا ينكح المحرم ولا ينكح
Muslim narrated it, in the Book of Marriage, chapter "Prohibition of a person in the state of ihram marrying, and the dislike of him proposing marriage," hadith no. 1409, from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is also found in Muwatta (Yahya): 1/348, 349.
