Sabi bin Mabad reported,

I was a Bedouin Arabi and a Christian, then I embraced Islam. I went to a man from my clan named Hudhaym bin Tharmala and said to him, "My friend, I am eager for jihad, and I have found that hajj and umrah are prescribed upon me. How can I combine them?"He replied, "Combine them both and slaughter whatever sacrificial animal is readily available."So I entered ihram for both together. When I reached al-Udhayb, Salman bin Rabia and Zayd bin Sawhan met me while I was in ihram for both at once. One of them said to the other, "This man is no more knowledgeable than his camel."It was as though a mountain had been hurled upon me. I went on until I reached Umar bin Khattab and said to him, "Commander of the Believers, I was a Bedouin Arabi and a Christian, then I embraced Islam. I am eager for jihad, and I found that hajj and umrah are prescribed upon me. So I went to a man from my people, and he said to me, 'Combine them both and slaughter whatever sacrificial animal is readily available.' I have indeed entered ihram for both together."Umar said to me, "You have been guided to the practice of your Prophet ﷺ."

حدثنا محمد بن قدامة بن أعين وعثمان بن أبي شيبة المعنى قالا حدثنا جرير بن عبد الحميد عن منصور عن أبي وائل قال

قال الصبي بن معبد

كنت رجلا أعرابيا نصرانيا فأسلمت فأتيت رجلا من عشيرتي يقال له هذيم بن ثرملة فقلت له يا هناه إني حريص على الجهاد وإني وجدت الحج والعمرة مكتوبين علي فكيف لي بأن أجمعهما قال اجمعهما واذبح ما استيسر من الهدي فأهللت بهما معا فلما أتيت العذيب لقيني سلمان بن ربيعة وزيد بن صوحان وأنا أهل بهما جميعا فقال أحدهما للآخر ما هذا بأفقه من بعيره قال فكأنما ألقي علي جبل حتى أتيت عمر بن الخطاب فقلت له يا أمير المؤمنين إني كنت رجلا أعرابيا نصرانيا وإني أسلمت وأنا حريص على الجهاد وإني وجدت الحج والعمرة مكتوبين علي فأتيت رجلا من قومي فقال لي اجمعهما واذبح ما استيسر من الهدي وإني أهللت بهما معا فقال لي عمر رضي الله عنه هديت لسنة نبيك ﷺ
