We entered the state of ihram with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intending Hajj alone, with nothing else mixed into it. We arrived in Mecca on the fourth night of Dhul-Hijjah. We performed tawaf and saee, and then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to release ourselves from ihram. He said, "Were it not for my sacrificial animal, I myself would have come out of ihram."Then Suraqa bin Malik stood and asked, "Messenger of Allah, this tamattu of ours, is it for this year only or forever?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Rather, it is forever."Uzai said, I heard Ata bin Abu Rabah narrate this, but I did not commit it to memory until I met Ibn Jurayj, who confirmed it for me.
حدثنا العباس بن الوليد بن مزيد أخبرني أبي حدثني الأوزاعي حدثني من سمع عطاء بن أبي رباح
أهللنا مع رسول الله ﷺ بالحج خالصا لا يخالطه شيء فقدمنا مكة لأربع ليال خلون من ذي الحجة فطفنا وسعينا ثم أمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نحل وقال لولا هديي لحللت ثم قام سراقة بن مالك فقال يا رسول الله أرأيت متعتنا هذه ألعامنا هذا أم للأبد فقال رسول الله ﷺ بل هي للأبد قال الأوزاعي سمعت عطاء بن أبي رباح يحدث بهذا فلم أحفظه حتى لقيت ابن جريج فأثبته لي
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter "Holding Fast to the Book and the Sunnah," in the section "The Prophet's ﷺ Prohibition Is Taken to Indicate Absolute Forbidding Unless Its Permissibility Is Known..." and so on, hadith no. 7367, and Muslim, hadith no. 1216, from the hadith of Ata bin Abu Rabah, with the same wording.
