Umar bin Khattab offered a fine she-camel as a sacrificial gift, and he was offered three hundred dinars for her. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I offered a fine she-camel as a sacrificial gift, and I have been offered three hundred dinars for her. Should I sell her and buy several sacrificial camels with the price?"He replied, "No, sacrifice her herself."
حدثنا النفيلي، حدثنا محمد بن سلمة، عن أبي عبد الرحيم، عن حجاج بن محمد، عن جهم بن الجارود،
قال أهدى عمر بن الخطاب نجيبا فأعطي بها ثلاثمائة دينار فأتى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إني أهديت نجيبا فأعطيت بها ثلاثمائة دينار أفأبيعها وأشتري بثمنها بدنا قال لا انحرها إياها.
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Ahmad reported it, 2/145, from Muhammad bin Salama with the same chain, and Ibn Khuzayma doubted its soundness, hadith 2911. Jahm, or Shahm, was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Hibban alone, while Ibn Khuzayma and others considered him unknown, and this latter view is the more correct one.
