Aqra bin Habis asked the Prophet ﷺ, "Messenger of Allah, is the pilgrimage to be performed every year, or only once?"He replied, "Only once. Whoever performs it more than that, it is voluntary."
حدثنا زهير بن حرب وعثمان بن أبي شيبة المعنى قالا حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن سفيان بن حسين عن الزهري عن أبي سنان
أن الأقرع بن حابس سأل النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله الحج في كل سنة أو مرة واحدة قال بل مرة واحدة فمن زاد فهو تطوع
[Sahih] Reported by Nasai in Manasik al-Hajj, chapter on the obligation of Hajj, no. 2621, from the hadith of Zuhri with this chain, and also from Abdul-Jalil, and Hakim graded it sahih in 1/441, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has a corroborating witness in Muslim, no. 1337.
