Sahl bin Saad reported,

Ali bin Abu Talib came in upon Fatimah while Hasan and Husayn were crying, and he asked, "What is making them cry?"She replied, "Hunger."So Ali went out and found a dinar in the marketplace. He came back to Fatimah and told her about it.She said, "Go to such-and-such Jew and get us some flour."He went to the Jew and bought flour with it. The Jew asked, "Are you the son-in-law of this man who claims to be the Messenger of Allah?"Ali said, "Yes."The Jew said, "Then take your dinar back, and the flour is yours."Ali left and brought it to Fatimah and told her what had happened.She said, "Go to such-and-such butcher and get us a dirham's worth of meat."So he went and pawned the dinar for a dirham's worth of meat and brought it back. She kneaded the dough, set up the oven, baked the bread, and sent for her father.He came to them, and she said, "Messenger of Allah, let me tell you about this. If you see it as lawful for us, we will eat it, and you will eat with us. The matter is such-and-such."He said, "Eat in the name of Allah."So they ate. While they were still in their place, suddenly a young man came calling out by Allah and by Islam for the dinar. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that he be summoned and questioned him.The young man said, "It fell from me in the marketplace."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ali, go to the butcher and tell him, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ says to you, send me the dinar, and your dirham is my responsibility.'"So he sent it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ handed it over to the young man.

أخبره أن علي بن أبي طالب دخل على فاطمة وحسن وحسين يبكيان فقال ما يبكيهما قالت الجوع فخرج علي فوجد دينارا بالسوق فجاء إلى فاطمة فأخبرها فقالت اذهب إلى فلان اليهودي فخذ لنا دقيقا فجاء اليهودي فاشترى به فقال اليهودي أنت ختن هذا الذي يزعم أنه رسول الله قال نعم قال فخذ دينارك ولك الدقيق فخرج علي حتى جاء به فاطمة فأخبرها فقالت اذهب إلى فلان الجزار فخذ لنا بدرهم لحما فذهب فرهن الدينار بدرهم لحم فجاء به فعجنت ونصبت وخبزت وأرسلت إلى أبيها فجاءهم فقالت يا رسول الله أذكر لك فإن رأيته لنا حلالا أكلناه وأكلت معنا من شأنه كذا وكذا فقال كلوا باسم الله فأكلوا فبينما هم مكانهم إذا غلام ينشد الله والإسلام الدينار فأمر رسول الله ﷺ فدعي له فسأله فقال سقط مني في السوق فقال النبي ﷺ يا علي اذهب إلى الجزار فقل له إن رسول الله ﷺ يقول لك أرسل إلي بالدينار ودرهمك علي فأرسل به فدفعه رسول الله ﷺ إليه
