Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about fruit still hanging on the tree. He said, "Whoever, being in need, eats some of it with his mouth without carrying any away in his garment, bears no liability. But whoever carries any of it off must pay double its value as a fine, along with punishment. And whoever steals any of it after it has been gathered onto the drying floor, if the amount reaches the price of a shield, then his hand is to be cut off."He mentioned regarding stray camels and sheep what others have mentioned. He was also asked about lost property found on the ground, and he said, "Whatever of it is found on a frequented road or in a settled village, announce it for a year. If the one seeking it comes, hand it over to him, and if no one comes, then it is yours. As for what is found in ruins, in it and in buried treasure a fifth is due."Regarding a stray sheep he said, "Take it in."
