The Prophet ﷺ commanded people to give in charity.A man said, "Messenger of Allah, I have a Dinar."He said, "Spend it on yourself."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your child."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your wife," or he said, "your spouse."The man said, "I have another."He said, "Spend it on your servant."The man said, "I have another."He said, "You know best where it should go."
[Hasan] Nasai reported it in the Book of Zakat, chapter on the tafsir of that, no. 2536, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ajlan, with the same wording, and he made explicit the fact of direct hearing in Ahmad, 251/2, 471. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 828, as did Hakim, who said it meets the conditions of Muslim, 1/415, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
