The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever seeks refuge in the name of Allah, grant him refuge. Whoever asks in the name of Allah, give to him. Whoever invites you, accept his invitation. And whoever does you a kindness, repay him in kind. If you cannot find the means to repay him, then pray for him until you feel that you have indeed repaid him."
حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن مجاهد
قال رسول الله ﷺ من استعاذ بالله فأعيذوه ومن سأل بالله فأعطوه ومن دعاكم فأجيبوه ومن صنع إليكم معروفا فكافئوه فإن لم تجدوا ما تكافئونه فادعوا له حتى تروا أنكم قد كافأتموه
Its chain is daif. Nasai recorded it in the Book of Zakat, "Whoever asks by Allah," hadith no. 2568, from the hadith of Amash, with this wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 2071, as did Hakim, 1/412, saying it meets the standard of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and Dhahabi concurred with him. But its chain is daif, since Amash used the form "an" (indicating a possible break in transmission). The hadith has daif supporting narrations.
