We used to consider "small kindnesses" during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to include lending out the bucket and the cooking pot.
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا أبو عوانة عن عاصم بن أبي النجود عن شقيق
كنا نعد الماعون على عهد رسول الله ﷺ عور الدلو والقدر
Its chain is hasan. Nasai narrated it in Al-Kubra, no. 11701, from Qutayba, through him, with this addition, "Every act of kindness is charity."
