Someone said, "Abu Nujayd, you narrate to us hadiths for which we find no basis in the Quran."Imran became angry and said to the man, "Have you found in the Quran that for every forty dirhams, one dirham is due, and for every such-and-such number of sheep, one sheep is due, and for every such-and-such number of camels, such-and-such is due? Have you found this in the Quran?"The man replied, "No."Imran said, "Then from whom did you take this? You took it from us, and we took it from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ." And he mentioned other matters of this kind.

[Hasan] Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir, 18/219, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Bashshar, with this wording. The hadith has a corroborating witness in Hakim, 1/109, 110, and Tabarani, 18/165, 166, hadith no. 369, and Ibn Hibban in Al-Thiqat, 7/247, 248. Hasan Basri explicitly stated hearing it there, and the rest of the chain is hasan.
