[Its chain is sahih] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the chapter on prayer, in the section on what has been said about a man who sleeps through Witr or forgets it, hadith no. 465, and Ibn Majah, hadith no. 1188, by another route from Zayd bin Aslam, with the same wording. Hakim graded it sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs (1/302), and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith has many corroborating narrations in Bukhari, hadith nos. 1178 and 1981, and Muslim, hadith no. 721, and others.
