I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was present with him at the conquest of Mecca. He stayed in Mecca for eighteen nights, praying only two rakahs, and he would say, "People of this land, pray four rakahs, for we are travelers."
حدثنا موسى بن إسمعيل حدثنا حماد ح و حدثنا إبراهيم بن موسى أخبرنا ابن علية وهذا لفظه أخبرنا علي بن زيد عن أبي نضرة
غزوت مع رسول الله ﷺ وشهدت معه الفتح فأقام بمكة ثماني عشرة ليلة لا يصلي إلا ركعتين ويقول يا أهل البلد صلوا أربعا فإنا قوم سفر
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Tirmidhi also recorded it, in the Book of Prayer, chapter on shortening prayer during travel, no. 545, from the hadith of Ali bin Zayd, through the same route, and he said, hasan sahih, but its chain of transmission is daif. Ali bin Zayd bin Jadan is daif, though the basic content of the hadith has many corroborating witnesses.
