The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up. He stood for so long that he almost did not bow, then he bowed. He stayed bowing for so long that he almost did not rise, then he rose. He stayed standing for so long that he almost did not prostrate, then he prostrated. He stayed in prostration for so long that he almost did not rise, then he rose. He stayed sitting for so long that he almost did not prostrate again, then he prostrated. He stayed in prostration for so long that he almost did not rise, then he rose. He did the same in the second cycle. Then at the end of his prostration he blew and said, "Uff, uff." Then he said, "My Lord, did You not promise me that You would not punish them while I am among them? Did You not promise me that You would not punish them while they are seeking forgiveness?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, and the sun had cleared. And he continued the hadith.
[Its isnad is hasan] Nasai narrated it in Kusuf, chapter 14, another type, hadith 1483, from the hadith of Ata bin Saaib, by this route, and Shubah and others narrated it from Ata by this route.
