The sun was eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He kept praying two units at a time and asking about it until it cleared.
حدثنا أحمد بن أبي شعيب الحراني حدثني الحارث بن عمير البصري عن أيوب السختياني عن أبي قلابة
كسفت الشمس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ فجعل يصلي ركعتين ركعتين ويسأل عنها حتى انجلت
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Nasai narrated it in the chapter on the eclipse, section 16, another type, no. 1486, and Ibn Majah, no. 1262, from the hadith of Abu Qilaba with the same wording, and Bayhaqi said, 3/333, "This is a mursal report. Abu Qilaba did not hear it from Numan bin Bashir, rather he narrated it from a man, from Numan."
