Umar bin Khattab saw a silk garment being sold near the door of the mosque. He said, "Messenger of Allah, if only you would buy this and wear it on Fridays and when delegations come to visit you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Only those who have no share in the Hereafter wear this."Later, similar garments were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave one of them to Umar.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, you have given me this to wear, yet you said what you did about the garment of Utarid?"The Messenger of Allah replied, "I did not give it to you so that you would wear it."So Umar gave it to a polytheist brother of his in Mecca.
