The Prophet ﷺ led the noon prayer and gave the closing salutation after only two units. He was told, "The prayer has been shortened." So he prayed two more units and then performed two prostrations.
حدثنا عبيد الله بن معاذ حدثنا أبي حدثنا شعبة عن سعد بن إبراهيم سمع أبا سلمة بن عبد الرحمن
أن النبي ﷺ صلى الظهر فسلم في الركعتين فقيل له نقصت الصلاة فصلى ركعتين ثم سجد سجدتين
