When news of Jafar's death arrived, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Prepare food for Jafar's family, for something has come upon them that will keep them occupied."
حدثنا أحمد بن منيع وعلي بن حجر قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن جعفر بن خالد عن أبيه
لما جاء نعي جعفر قال النبي ﷺ اصنعوا لأهل جعفر طعاما فإنه قد جاءهم ما يشغلهم
[Its isnad is hasan]. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on the description of food for the family of the deceased, no. 3132, and Ibn Majah, no. 1610, from the hadith of Ibn Uyayna with the same wording. Hakim graded it sahih, 1/372, as did Dhahabi and Ibn Sakan.
