A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my father is a very old man who cannot perform Hajj or Umra, nor can he travel."He replied, "Perform Hajj and Umra on behalf of your father."
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Ibn Majah narrated it in "The Rites," chapter "Hajj on Behalf of a Living Person Who Is Unable," hadith no. 2906, through Waki with the same wording. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 3040, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 961, and Ibn Jarud, hadith no. 500. Hakim included it as meeting the criteria of the two sheikhs, 1/481, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Ahmad bin Hanbal deemed it strong.See Nail Maqsud, hadith no. 1810, which Allah made easy for me to publish.
