He was asked about the fasting of the Prophet ﷺ. He said, "He used to fast during the month until we thought he did not intend to break his fast at all, and he would not fast until we thought he did not intend to fast any of it. You could not wish to see him praying at night without finding him praying, nor sleeping without finding him asleep."

أنه سئل عن صوم النبي ﷺ قال كان يصوم من الشهر حتى نرى أنه لا يريد أن يفطر منه ويفطر حتى نرى أنه لا يريد أن يصوم منه شيئا وكنت لا تشاء أن تراه من الليل مصليا إلا رأيته مصليا ولا نائما إلا رأيته نائما
