Regarding fasting on the day of Arafah while at Arafah, he said, "I performed the pilgrimage with the Prophet ﷺ and he did not fast it, and with Abu Bakr and he did not fast it, and with Umar and he did not fast it, and with Uthman and he did not fast it. I myself do not fast it, nor do I command it, nor do I forbid it."
حدثنا أحمد بن منيع وعلي بن حجر قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة وإسمعيل بن إبراهيم عن ابن أبي نجيح عن أبيه قال سئل
عن صوم يوم عرفة بعرفة فقال حججت مع النبي ﷺ فلم يصمه ومع أبي بكر فلم يصمه ومع عمر فلم يصمه ومع عثمان فلم يصمه وأنا لا أصومه ولا آمر به ولا أنهى عنه
