A man from the tribe of Banu Abdullah bin Kaab said, "The cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raided us. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found him eating his midday meal."He said, "Come close and eat."I replied, "I am fasting."He said, "Come close, and let me tell you about fasting. Allah Most High has lifted the fast and half of the prayer from the traveler, and He has lifted the fast from the pregnant woman and the nursing mother."By Allah, the Prophet ﷺ mentioned both of them, or one of the two. How I regret that I did not eat from the food of the Prophet ﷺ.
[Hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Fasting, chapter on the preference of breaking the fast, no. 2408, from the hadith of Abu Hilal with this wording, and it has a hasan corroborating narration in Bayhaqi (4/231). Ibn Khuzayma graded the hadith sahih, no. 2044.There is also a report on this subject from Abu Umaya Qushayri Dhamri [Nasai, no. 2271, in a shortened form, which does not mention the nursing mother or the pregnant woman].
