The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Mecca in the year of the Conquest, and he was fasting. When he reached Kura al-Ghamim, the people were also fasting with him. He was told, "The fast has become difficult for the people, and they are watching to see what you do."After the afternoon prayer, he called for a cup of water and drank it while the people were watching him. Some of them broke their fast, and others continued fasting. When he was told that some had continued to fast, he said, "Those are the disobedient ones."

أن رسول الله ﷺ خرج إلى مكة عام الفتح فصام حتى بلغ كراع الغميم وصام الناس معه فقيل له إن الناس قد شق عليهم الصيام وإن الناس ينظرون فيما فعلت فدعا بقدح من ماء بعد العصر فشرب والناس ينظرون إليه فأفطر بعضهم وصام بعضهم فبلغه أن ناسا صاموا فقال أولئك العصاة
Muslim also recorded it, in the Book of Fasting, Chapter on the permissibility of fasting or breaking the fast during Ramadan for the traveler not engaged in sin, etc, hadith no. 1114, from Qutayba, with the same wording.There are also narrations on this topic from Kaab bin Aasim [Ibn Majah, no. 1664] and Ibn Abbas [the note points to the hadith of Muslim, no. 1113, otherwise see Duafa of Aqeeli, 3/318, for his hadith agrees with the topic], and Abu Hurairah [Aqeeli in Duafa, 4/388].
