The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not let Bilal's call to prayer or the vertical light of dawn prevent you from your pre-dawn meal. Rather, it is the dawn that spreads horizontally across the horizon."
حدثنا هناد ويوسف بن عيسى قالا حدثنا وكيع عن أبي هلال عن سوادة بن حنظلة هو القشيري
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا يمنعنكم من سحوركم أذان بلال ولا الفجر المستطيل ولكن الفجر المستطير في الأفق
[Sahih]. Muslim also related it, in the Book of Fasting, the chapter on stating that the start of the fast begins with the break of dawn, etc, hadith no. 1094, from the hadith of Suwada, with the same wording. Ahmad related it as well, 13/5, from Waki, with the same wording.
