The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Muaz to Yemen and said to him, "You are going to a people who are People of the Book. Call them to testify that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. If they obey you in that, then inform them that Allah has made five prayers obligatory upon them in every day and night. If they obey you in that, then inform them that Allah has made charity obligatory upon them, taken from their wealthy and given back to their poor. If they obey you in that, then beware of taking the most prized portions of their wealth, and beware of the supplication of the wronged, for there is no barrier between it and Allah."
Agreed upon. Muslim also reported it in the book of Iman, chapter on calling people to the two testimonies of faith and the laws of Islam, no. 19, from Abu Kurayb, and Bukhari, no. 1395, through the hadith of Zakariya bin Ishaq, with the same wording. On this subject there is also a report from Sanabihi (Sanabih) bin Aasar [Ahmad: 4/349].
