The Prophet's ﷺ night prayer consisted of thirteen rakats, of which he prayed five as witr, sitting only in the final one. When the muezzin called the adhan, he would stand and pray two light rakats.
حدثنا إسحق بن منصور الكوسج حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير حدثنا هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
كانت صلاة النبي ﷺ من الليل ثلاث عشرة ركعة يوتر من ذلك بخمس لا يجلس في شيء منهن إلا في آخرهن فإذا أذن المؤذن قام فصلى ركعتين خفيفتين
Muslim also narrated it in Salat al-Musafirin, chapter on the night prayer and the number of units the Prophet ﷺ performed at night, etc., Hadith: 737, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Numayr, with the same wording.On this subject there is also a report from Abu Ayub [Abu Dawud, Hadith: 1422, Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1191, and Nasai, Hadith: 1711].
