The Prophet ﷺ used to pray four rakahs before the Asr prayer, separating them with the salutation upon the angels brought near and those who follow them among the Muslims and the believers.
حدثنا بندار محمد بن بشار حدثنا أبو عامر هو العقدي عبد الملك بن عمرو حدثنا سفيان عن أبي إسحق عن عاصم بن ضمرة
كان النبي ﷺ يصلي قبل العصر أربع ركعات يفصل بينهن بالتسليم على الملائكة المقربين ومن تبعهم من المسلمين والمؤمنين
[Hasan]. Ibn Majah also recorded it, in Establishing the Prayers, chapter on what is recommended regarding the voluntary prayer during the day, no. 1161, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri with the same chain, and Shubah followed him in agreement, as found in Nasai (875).On this subject there are also narrations from Ibn Umar [to come at 430] and Abdullah bin Amr [Tabarani in Al-Awsat, 3/275, 276, no. 2601].
