Ayesha reported,

I asked her about the voluntary prayers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said, "He used to pray for long stretches of the night standing, and for long stretches of the night sitting. When he recited while standing, he would bow and prostrate from a standing position, and when he recited while sitting, he would bow and prostrate from a sitting position."
