The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Ali on the day of Taif and spoke with him privately. The people remarked, "His private conversation with his cousin has gone on for a long time."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I did not hold a private conversation with him, but Allah did."

Its chain of transmission is daif. Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in al-Sunnah, no. 1321, from the hadith of Ajlah with the same wording. Abu Zubayr narrated it using "an" (indicating a possible break in transmission).
