The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Saying 'SubhanAllah' is for men, and clapping is for women."
حدثنا هناد حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي صالح
قال رسول الله ﷺ التسبيح للرجال والتصفيق للنساء
Agreed upon by Bukhari and Muslim. Muslim also recorded it in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on a man saying "subhan Allah" and a woman clapping when something occurs to them during prayer, hadith no. 422, from the hadith of Abu Muawiya al-Darir, and Bukhari, hadith no. 1203, from the hadith of Abu Hurairah, with a similar wording.There are also narrations on this subject from Ali [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 3708], Sahl bin Saad [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 1035], Jabir [Ahmad: 3/340, 348, 357], Abu Saeed [Ibn Adi in Al-Kamil: 5/1733, 1734], and Ibn Umar [Ibn Majah, hadith no. 1036].The hadith of Ali was recorded by Ibn Majah, hadith no. 3708, and Ahmad: 1/79, 98, 112.
