Abu Saeed Khudri reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on the pulpit and said, "Allah has given a servant the choice between being granted as much of the splendor of this world as he wishes and what is with Him, and he chose what is with Him."Abu Bakr said, "We ransom you with our fathers and mothers, Messenger of Allah."We were surprised at this, and the people said, "Look at this old man. The Messenger of Allah is telling him about a servant whom Allah has given the choice between being granted as much of the splendor of this world as he wishes and what is with Allah, and he says, 'We ransom you with our fathers and mothers.'"But it turned out that the Messenger of Allah was himself the one who had been given the choice, and Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable among us about it.The Prophet ﷺ then said, "The most generous of people toward me in his companionship and his wealth is Abu Bakr. If I were to take a close friend, I would have taken Abu Bakr as my close friend, but the brotherhood of Islam suffices. Let no door remain open into the mosque except the door of Abu Bakr."
