The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the supplications of Dawud was that he would say, 'O Allah, I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and for the deeds that will bring me to Your love. O Allah, make Your love dearer to me than myself, my family, and cold water.'"Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Dawud and spoke about him, he would say, "He was the most devoted in worship of all people."

قال رسول الله ﷺ كان من دعاء داود يقول اللهم إني أسألك حبك وحب من يحبك والعمل الذي يبلغني حبك اللهم اجعل حبك أحب إلي من نفسي وأهلي ومن الماء البارد قال وكان رسول الله ﷺ إذا ذكر داود يحدث عنه قال كان أعبد البشر

[Its isnad is hasan] Abu Naeem also reported it in Hilyat Awliya 1/226, 227 through Abu Kurayb, with the same wording. Hakim graded it sahih at 2/433, though an error occurred in his isnad, and Dhahabi followed him in this (!)Abdullah bin Rabia was deemed reliable by Tirmidhi and Ibn Hibban, and his hadith is hasan.
