The Prophet ﷺ said to Ubayy, "Husayn, how many gods do you worship today?"Ubayy replied, "Seven, six on earth and one in heaven."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Which of them do you turn to in your hope and your fear?"He answered, "The one in heaven."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Husayn, if you were to accept Islam, I would teach you two phrases that would benefit you."When Husayn embraced Islam, he said, "Messenger of Allah, teach me the two phrases you promised me."He said, "Say, O Allah, inspire me with right guidance and protect me from the evil of my own self."

قال النبي ﷺ لأبي يا حصين كم تعبد اليوم إلها قال أبي سبعة ستة في الأرض وواحدا في السماء قال فأيهم تعد لرغبتك ورهبتك قال الذي في السماء قال يا حصين أما إنك لو أسلمت علمتك كلمتين تنفعانك قال فلما أسلم حصين قال يا رسول الله علمني الكلمتين اللتين وعدتني فقال قل اللهم ألهمني رشدي وأعذني من شر نفسي

[Its chain of transmission is daif] Tabarani narrated it in 18/174, hadith no. 396, from the hadith of Abu Muawiya Dareer with this wording, and he stated explicitly that he had heard it, while Hasan Basri narrated with "an" without specifying direct hearing. Nasai narrated it in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla, hadith no. 993, with a hasan chain, from Imran bin Husayn, from his father, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Say, O Allah, protect me from the evil of my own self, and grant me firm resolve toward what is right in my affairs... etc." Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 2431, and so did Hakim, 1/510, saying it met the criteria of the two shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
