I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ speaking about the pause in revelation, and he said in his account, "While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my head, and there was the angel who had come to me at Hira, seated on a throne between the sky and the earth. I was gripped with terror at the sight of him, so I returned home and said, 'Wrap me up, wrap me up.' So they covered me, and Allah revealed, 'You who are wrapped in a cloak, arise and warn' up to His words 'and shun all filth' [Muddaththir 74:1–5]. This was before the prayer was made obligatory."
