[Sahih]. Ahmad reported it (1/269) from the hadith of Simak with this chain, and Ibn Khuzayma (no. 1005) and Ibn Hibban (al-Ihsan, no. 2307) and others graded it sahih, though its chain is daif. It has corroborating witnesses in Bukhari (no. 382) and Muslim (no. 512) and others.There are also narrations on this subject from Umm Habiba [Tabarani in al-Kabir, 23/242, no. 482], Ibn Umar [Ahmad, 2/92, 98 and Ibn Khuzayma, no. 1013], Umm Salim [Ahmad, 6/376, 377], Ayesha [Bukhari, no. 382, and Muslim, nos. 512, 514], Maymuna [Bukhari, no. 379, and Muslim, no. 513], Umm Kulthum bint Abu Salama bin Abdul-Asad [Ibn Khuzayma, no. 1008], and Umm Salama [Ahmad, 6/302]. It also has another route reported by Abu Yaala and Tabarani in al-Kabir.
