We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys when I spoke to him, but he remained silent. I spoke to him again, and he was silent. I spoke to him a third time, and still he gave no reply.So I urged my mount forward and moved away, saying to myself, "May your mother lose you, son of Khattab. You pressed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times, and each time he did not answer you. How fitting it would be for the Quran to be revealed about you."It was not long before I heard someone calling out to me. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "Son of Khattab, a surah has been revealed to me tonight that is more beloved to me than anything the sun rises upon, 'Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory' [Fath 48:1]."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا محمد بن خالد ابن عثمة حدثنا مالك بن أنس عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبيه قال سمعت
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في بعض أسفاره فكلمت رسول الله ﷺ فسكت ثم كلمته فسكت ثم كلمته فسكت فحركت راحلتي فتنحيت وقلت ثكلتك أمك يا ابن الخطاب نزرت رسول الله ﷺ ثلاث مرات كل ذلك لا يكلمك ما أخلقك بأن ينزل فيك قرآن قال فما نشبت أن سمعت صارخا يصرخ بي قال فجئت إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا ابن الخطاب لقد أنزل علي هذه الليلة سورة ما أحب أن لي منها ما طلعت عليه الشمس إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا
Bukhari also narrated it, in the Book of Tafsir, chapter on His saying, "Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory," hadith no. 4833, from the hadith of Malik through the same chain, and it is found in Muwatta, 1/203, 204, as a mursal narration.
