Whenever the Prophet ﷺ saw a cloud that looked like it carried rain, he would pace back and forth. Once it rained, his anxiety would leave him.Aisha said, "I asked him about this."He replied, "I do not know, perhaps it is as Allah the Exalted said, 'Then when they saw it as a cloud advancing toward their valleys, they said, This is a cloud bringing us rain'" [Ahqaf 46:24].
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن الأسود أبو عمرو البصري حدثنا محمد بن ربيعة عن ابن جريج عن عطاء
كان النبي ﷺ إذا رأى مخيلة أقبل وأدبر فإذا مطرت سري عنه قالت فقلت له فقال وما أدري لعله كما قال الله تعالى {فلما رأوه عارضا مستقبل أوديتهم قالوا هذا عارض ممطرنا}
Its authenticity was agreed upon. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Beginning of Creation, in the chapter on what has been said about His statement, "And He is the One who sends the winds as bearers of glad tidings before His mercy" [Araf 7:57], no. 3206, and Muslim narrated it, no. 899, from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj, with similar wording.
