The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got married and consummated his marriage with his wife. My mother, Umm Sulaym, prepared a dish of hays and put it in a stone bowl.She said, "Anas, take this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and tell him, 'My mother sent this to you. She sends you her greetings and says this is a small offering from us to you, Messenger of Allah.'"So I took it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "My mother sends you her greetings and says this is a small offering from us to you."He said, "Set it down."Then he said, "Go and invite so-and-so, so-and-so, and so-and-so for me, along with anyone you meet." He named Some men.So I invited those he had named and those I met along the way.I said to Anas, "How many were they?"He replied, "Around three hundred."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Anas, bring the bowl."They came in until the covered porch and the room were filled. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Let them form circles of ten, and let each person eat from what is nearest to him."They ate until they were full. One group left and another came in, until all of them had eaten.Then he said to me, "Anas, take it away."So I took it away, and I do not know whether there was more in it when I set it down or when I lifted it up.A group of them stayed sitting and chatting in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat there and his wife had turned her face to the wall. They were becoming a burden on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and greeted his other wives, then returned. When they saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had returned, they realized they had overstayed and become a burden to him. They rushed to the door and all went out.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and let down the curtain, then went inside, while I was sitting in the room. He had only been there a short while before he came out to me, and these verses were revealed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and recited them to the people, "Believers, do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you for a meal, without waiting for it to be ready. But when you are invited, enter, and when you have eaten, disperse, not lingering for conversation. That used to annoy the Prophet" [Ahzab 33:53] to the end of the verse.Jad said, Anas said, "I am the person with the most recent knowledge of these verses, and the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were veiled from that day on."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان الضبعي عن الجعد بن عثمان
تزوج رسول الله ﷺ فدخل بأهله قال فصنعت أمي أم سليم حيسا فجعلته في تور فقالت يا أنس اذهب بهذا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقل له بعثت بهذا إليك أمي وهي تقرئك السلام وتقول إن هذا لك منا قليل يا رسول الله قال فذهبت به إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقلت إن أمي تقرئك السلام وتقول إن هذا منا لك قليل فقال ضعه ثم قال اذهب فادع لي فلانا وفلانا وفلانا ومن لقيت فسمى رجالا قال فدعوت من سمى ومن لقيت قال قلت لأنس عدد كم كانوا قال زهاء ثلاث مائة قال وقال لي رسول الله ﷺ يا أنس هات التور قال فدخلوا حتى امتلأت الصفة والحجرة فقال رسول الله ﷺ ليتحلق عشرة عشرة وليأكل كل إنسان مما يليه قال فأكلوا حتى شبعوا قال فخرجت طائفة ودخلت طائفة حتى أكلوا كلهم قال فقال لي يا أنس ارفع قال فرفعت فما أدري حين وضعت كان أكثر أم حين رفعت قال وجلس منهم طوائف يتحدثون في بيت رسول الله ﷺ ورسول الله ﷺ جالس وزوجته مولية وجهها إلى الحائط فثقلوا على رسول الله ﷺ فخرج رسول الله ﷺ فسلم على نسائه ثم رجع فلما رأوا رسول الله ﷺ قد رجع ظنوا أنهم قد ثقلوا عليه قال فابتدروا الباب فخرجوا كلهم وجاء رسول الله ﷺ حتى أرخى الستر ودخل وأنا جالس في الحجرة فلم يلبث إلا يسيرا حتى خرج علي وأنزلت هذه الآيات فخرج رسول الله ﷺ فقرأهن على الناس {يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تدخلوا بيوت النبي إلا أن يؤذن لكم إلى طعام غير ناظرين إناه ولكن إذا دعيتم فادخلوا فإذا طعمتم فانتشروا ولا مستأنسين لحديث إن ذلكم كان يؤذي النبي} إلى آخر الآية قال الجعد قال أنس أنا أحدث الناس عهدا بهذه الآيات وحجبن نساء رسول الله ﷺ
