The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The table was sent down from heaven with bread and meat. They were commanded not to betray the trust and not to store anything for the next day. But they betrayed and stored, lifting some away for the next day, so they were transformed into monkeys and pigs."

Regarding its sourcing, the chain of transmission is daif. Ibn Abu Hatim narrated it in his Tafsir, 4/1245, no. 7022, from his father, from Hasan bin Qazaa, with the same wording. Saeed bin Abu Aruba and Qatada both narrated it using the ambiguous "an" formula. The hadith has daif corroborating narrations, which Ibn Kathir mentioned in his Tafsir. The hadith of Abu Asim was narrated by Ibn Abu Hatim, no. 7023.Hasan Basri and others said, "Surah Maidah was not revealed," and this is the correct view, which is what Tabari and others favored, based on evidence.
